The following books are stored in our special Chester Collection, which is housed within the Reference section. Most of the books may be used in the library, but not borrowed. Copies can be made (10 cents per page for 8-1/2" x 11" paper).

This book details the genealogy of the area's famous family, including J. Lewis Crozer.

This book contains a total of 2,294 entries that are arranged alphabetically under specific subject headings. It has a section on Chester (pp. 31-40; item nos. 506-630) and another section entitled Chester Township (pp. 40; item nos. 631-636).

This item contains an alphabetic index of the names of persons included in the volume. Mr. Cope supplied information on Chester County, and Mr. Ashmead on Delaware County.

This book contains maps and illustrations, and a full account of the work of the General Committee of the Penn Bi-Centennial Association of Chester, and other items. Printed at the Republican Steam Printing House.

In 1976, George Smith added an index to make this reference easier to use. This book has a total of 54 chapters, of which the following are noteworthy: The Revolutionary War, the Battle of Brandywine, the Civil War, and accounts of several cities, boroughs, and townships including the City of Chester (p. 327-424). It also contains reproductions of portraits of numerous individuals of repute, and other illustrations.

The book includes a chapter entitled “First Negro Woman Appointed Mayor (1981-90) --- Mrs. Willie Mae James Leake.
